New Books

I recently discovered Ebay's half.com. I am usually a hard core fan of Amazon when it comes to buying cheap books but I have to say- Half.com seems to be a smidge cheaper and I am all about cheap especially when it comes to books (cause you read them or in my case you often read part of them and then they sit in your nightstand or on your bookshelf for years).

Today I purchased

Fall

I didn't have to be into work until 11:30 today so I forced myself to take a walk around the neighborhood. I believe fall is finally here because I actually had to wear a fleece sweatshirt and a hat to keep my ears from freezing off all while listening to the Beatles.

I know most of my friends will be appalled when I share this secret ,but here it goes.

I Love dreads! I have no hair so don't worry I can't make them ,but I find them so interesting. Being a stylist at heart I was curious as to how someone creates them and maintains them. I would love to attempt them on someone. They take hours by the way to create and a lot of time afterwards is spent maintaining them until they lock into place ,but once they do I think they are so unique. and PS my one friend said they are disgusting and dirty and that is really not true..unless you are the kid that sat in front of me in highschool who was twirling one in his finger when it snapped off and fell on my desk along with a pile of white flakes. ewwwwwww......

blue sky..finally

It's amazing how the weather can affect ones mood. It has been raining here for what seems like weeks. No-seriously! WEEKS! I imagine this is what it feels like to live in Seattle. I am not talking a light drizzle here and there. I'm talking heavy down poor almost 24/7. Yesterday the sun came out and I felt like a snail who has been hiding under a rock experiencing sun for the first time. I walked out in my back yard and threw my arms up and just soaked it all in. It felt amazing!

Today I even feel lighter. An extra spring in my step. Could be the grande mint mocha I am sipping on...but I am enjoying the sunshine never the less.

craft idol

I feel kind of Lame-O that I am excited by this but I can't help it. There is this women, Vickie Howell, who is known for her crafty-ness. She had a craft tv show that I couldn't watch because we don't have cable but I read her blog all the time and she is also an author of knitting and crochet books. She also has killer hair-the stylist in me is obsessed with her hair do's and wears crazy fun platform shoes (which is a plus in my book since I can hardly wear flip flops without my feet hurting).

I became a "friend" of hers on Facebook a while back and today I saw she was on . So-I sent her an instant message after a few minutes of deciding what I should say.

Should I say -
"Hey Vickie-I read your blog everyday and stare at pictures of you to figure out how your hair is cut. I have conversations with my hairstylist friend to try to figure out if your hair colorist uses 7r+6or or 7or+7r. Which is it? Oh and can you give me pointers on how to be like you?" I decided that might be a little creepy (maybe WAY creepy) so I said " Do you ever come to Nashville,TN?"

It sat blank for awhile and then I saw she was actually writing me back. Basically she said she has been to Knoxville but never Nashville on her tours. She would be sure to make sure to visit.
I was like "Cool-Nashville has a lot of great music (duh!) and things to do."

She said "I am giving away a book on my blog today-you should type something in my comment section to try to win it." I did and I am sure I won't win. I never have luck with "give-a-ways".

So-that was it.I was hoping she would give me pointers on how to be her but for now I am content with knowing she will make Nashville a stop on her next tour (I think she just said that to be nice...).
Is there anyone you would like to meet or talk to if you could?

sick :(

All week long I have been feeling kind of yucky in the stomach and yesterday when I finally started feeling better I quickly got a sore throat and major congestion. So, today I feel like poo but I am at work chugging away. Why are you blogging one might ask if I am at work. It's SLOW right now so it's alright.

Hope you all are having a great day!

For Sale

I haven't posted in awhile because it's been an interesting few weeks. Just a lot going on.

We bought our house about 3 years ago and though it's been a great little house we are ready for something different. Not necessarily bigger but just different. There have been many times where we wanted to try and sell it but when it came down to it we weren't ready. So-I am not sure what changed but we are ready and have been working hard to make some improvements before we put it on the market.

The exciting and just as scary part is that we don't really know what we will do if the house does sell. I mean we have a rough idea but we don't really know. Our dream is to buy a small house with more land further away from town. basically an old farm. however as we have been looking online we aren't really seeing much that fits our description. So I guess we will just have to take it one day at a time.

It's strange how God guides you and takes you places you never intended to go. I never in a million years would have thought I would end up in TN or that someday I would actually want to live in the country. But-I am happy that God is in control because if I were solely in control who knows where I would have ended up.

corn dog in a muffin

I found this recipe on here and am trying it out for the first time. It's actually baking in the oven as I write. I think what drew me to it is how simple and fun the idea is. I bet kids would gobble these up.

Makes 18 muffins (I cut the recipe in half)

INGREDIENTS
  • 2 (8.5 ounce) packages cornbread mix
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 9 hot dogs, cut in half
DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease muffin tins.
  2. Stir together the cornbread mix and the brown sugar in a large bowl. Whisk the eggs and milk in a small bowl until smooth. Fold the eggs and cheese into the dry mixture until moistened. Spoon mixture into muffin tins until 2/3 full. Add 1 hot dog half to each muffin.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven 14 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown.
